06.26.2008 - Fraud Department Scam
Details: In this scam fraudsters contact the cardholders of a bank either by phone or email and present themselves as someone from the Fraud department of that bank. The fraudster then asks cardholders to provide their PIN information or reset their PIN through an online form. In some situations, the fraudsters may leave messages with phone numbers beginning with various area codes. This type of scam is called Vishing and it operates like phishing by persuading consumers to divulge their Personally Identifiable Information (PII) via telephone, VoIP and/or email.

06.23.2008 - Secret Shopper Scam/Eureka Reporter
Details: There's an ad running, though it should be stopped by now, in the Eureka Reporter offering compensation for secret shoppers. Respondents get a copy of a letter with a list of tasks and requesting more information. Once the tasks are completed you will receive a check. If you actually wire the money, as one of the tasks indicates, the fraudsters would 'win'. The offer is a scam and the check will return unpayable.

06.09.2008 - U.S. Dept. of Transportation
Details: Many people around the country have recently received a fax purporting to be from the US Dept. of transportation and asking that the company/customer sign and return a release that would allow ‘them’ to have full access to your financial data. The ruse is that the company is slated to be part of the US Dept. of Transportation procurement program and that financial authorization is the only from missing.
Be aware that the US Department of Transportation has not issued any requests for the authorization of the release of financial data. If you receive such a document or any similar document please shred and disregard.
